Testimonials

Alan, I ran into you Thursday afternoon on the McCloud and snapped a few pictures of your last fish of the day. Many thanks for the advice as, I have been in the mind set of ‘bigger bait, bigger fish’ for many years even when the bigger bugs aren’t around and have probably missed more than a few opportunities for bigger fish as a result. Pictures don’t lie and that trout I saw you catch on the tiniest of nymphs was an eye opener for me. I will definitely try to apply that lesson to my ‘home waters’. I‘ve been fly fishing for about a dozen years now mostly on the lower Rubicon River and tributary creeks- it’s close, remote and never lets me down for rainbow or brown trout (at least they don’t seem to be terribly finicky). I think the next time I convince one of my fly fishing buddies to go back up to the McCloud I’ll look you up for a guided fishing day, I think I could learn a lot. Enjoy the pictures. See you on the river some time.

Q. Which rivers will we be fishing?
A. That depends on which river is the most productive at the time and how adventurous you are. We love the Pit River, the McCloud River and the Upper Sacramento River.

Q. What equipment do I need to bring fly fishing?
A. The essential items are rod, reel, flies, waders, wading boots and staff, and water bottle, however, sun glasses, sun screen, and hat, are desirable. If you don't have this equipment we can make it available.

Q. What types of flies will I need for rivers in the Mt. Shasta area?
A. You should have a variety of sizes from #12 to #16, P.T.'s, Princes, Micro Mays and Birds Nests for nymphing and for the dries, Adams, Stimulators, P.M.D.'s, and Blue Winged Olives.

Q. Where can I stay in Mt. Shasta?
A. We can book you into the lovely Strawberry Inn in downtown Mt. Shasta (530-926-2052) or the beautiful Mt. Shasta Ranch B & B in Mt. Shasta (530-926-3870), or there are a number of elegant B & B's in the historic logging town of McCloud. There are several other motels available at a variety of prices.
